Yes it is absurd that a dingy filled with Somalian pirates can take over an oil tanker. However, its not as hard as you would think. Some ships lack the speed to ward of pirate attacks therefore making it easy for them to board. Secondly, taking the ship back by force is harder than you think. Running the risk of having your crew killed is something all shipping companies should avoid.
