Great video. Thanks for making this. I just set up an ATA for home use and will try this with a spare PC. I have been researching Asterisk and I will try Elastix. It looks like it has a lot of good features bundled together.

you can use an analogue card but its much more expensive. You will need to use an ATA adapter for the analogue phones. They cost about 1/2 that of the cheapest IP phones.

Thank you for your response.Does the pbx setup work with an analog card to connect to the pbx server, instead of the ISDN card, and have an out to the analog phone rather than to purchase VoIP phones? I much rather go the analog route instead of using the ISDN card. Would it work?

Hi Craig,I was using a isdn compatible card with the colgne chipset. Some of the cards which are used as isdn modems are ok for this. It was real cheap around USD25.If you have only a limited number of incoming lines and extensions a low powered PC will do.I don't know what magic jack is but you can simply use a sip compatible softphone or hardphone. If its for multiple incoming lines then put two or more ISDN cards in. Our server has 3 which gives us 6 lines in total.

Hi, I want to setup a home pbx system for my small business. First, what is the card you are showing and how much does it cost? Can I use my old cpu to make it my pbx server? And, is there any specs that I should follow before installing the program you have in your system in to my cpu? Can I use magicjack as a cheap way to cut my monthly bill and connect multiple jacks to the cpu/pbx server I create?

Hi AsiaI74,I have never used an iphone but if it has a wifi connection and you can setup a sip account on it then it will work with asterisk. My nokia does :)

mmm can you ping the asterisk vm? Sounds like you may have some basic networking issues with the quest os? Once you have that working irs easy to setup an extension in asterisk and then register a sip phone. |
